What a day of cricket!

A perfect start to the season for Qui Vive 1 today! Rohit won the toss. We scored 329 batting first, and then got the opponent out for 180 runs ensuring a 150 runs victory!! What a game, really!!

Swapnil and Piyush started the innings for Qui Vive and they started with a bang! Swapnil hit 11 runs of the second over that included a six and a boundary. We never lost this momentum with Swapnil hitting the ball all around the ground and Piyush playing and excellent supportive role making sure Swapnil gets the maximum strike! We reached 50 runs in the 8th over, 100 in the 18th over and Swapnil reached his century in the 23rd over. Both these guys delivered a 150 run opening partnership when we lost our first wicket in the form of Swapnil who scored 105 runs in 68 balls!! What an innings!! When you get going, you are a treat to watch. I am sure this is one of the many centuries of this season. With such a start, the maximum damage was done already and we didn’t stop there.
After Swapnil, we lost Abhishek cheaply but then Keagan went in. Piyush played an excellent innings until 32nd over and then got caught on the boundary while hitting a smashing six. Well made 42 and most importantly for anchoring the innings with Swapnil and then Keagen! Good job Piyush.
After that, Rohit and Keagen started smashing the ball all around and reached their respective half-centuries in no time. Keagen made 52 and Rohit 55. Two very sensible and attacking innings that put us 279 for 5 in 45 overs.
Hemanth and Ashish finished the innings for Qui Vive by scoring quick 50 runs in the last 5 overs. Hemanth made 42 of 16 balls, and Ashish 10 not out. Qui Vive finished their innings at 329 in 50 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Amazing show overall, especially because it was a full team effort. What a start!!
After a massive target of 330, we knew that Ajax will either go big or just plan to bat 50 overs so striking early was important. And Savneet provided that with 2 wickets in the 3rd over. Two amazing swing balls, and ball landing in the first slip in safe hands of Keagen. Ajax was 2 for 11 in 3 overs.
After Abhishek and Savneet’s tight spells, Rohit and Piyush took charge and both clinched a wicket each to make the score 56 for 4 in 12 overs. Piyush took a cracking catch of Ajax’s Australian coach at square leg. Everything was going Qui Vive’s way when we became a little complacent. An expensive spell from Bhushan where he gave 27 in 3 overs and a couple of dropped catches meant a partnership of 84 runs for Ajax between A Bindra and M Iqbal. Finally, Tom broke this partnership, thanks to a flying catch from Satya! After this wicket, A Bindra tried to fight a little but got out for 72 on Abhishek’s bowling. Swapnil and Abhishek finished rest of the innings with help of Tom’s disciplined bowling from one end. Abhishek took 3 wickets, Swapnil 2, Savneet 2, Piyush, Rohit and Tom 1 each.
This was an amazing team performance for Qui Vive. Special thanks to Dirk for helping with the scoring, field marking and to Grant for all the good work with the grass cutting. You guys are amazing and what you do for the club cannot be appreciated enough. Thank you so much!
All in all, an amazing game of cricket and a very good start of the season for Qui Vive!! Hope to keep this momentum.
