QV team 2 were looking forward to continue their winning streak on our home ground against Almere. We knew that the opponents had a strong batting line up with some good power hitters and therefore it was crucial that we bowled well. Team 2 was short of a few players but we got help in form of Murad, Aravindhan & Satya for this game. Thanks to Team4 and Team1 for their help. There was overnight rain and the ground was quite wet. The away team won the toss and elected to bat in overcast conditions.
Gourav opened the bowling for QV2 and it was a dream start and he got a wicket on the second ball of the game. Inviting the batsman to drive and Lokesh took a nice catch at cover point. With an early break through QV2 were pumped up and looking to get in a few more quick wickets. Sooraj started his spell from the other end and was generating some good movement off the pitch. F.Bajwa, their other opener was looking to be aggressive and hit one high in the air of Sooraj’s bolwing but unluckily the catch was dropped at cover.
Almere started to consolidate the innings from this point on and a partnership started to grow with a boundary here and there. QV2 however kept the run rate in check by not allowing easy rotation of strike by bowling in good areas. Most runs came out of batsmen attempting to play attacking shots. 10 overs gone and the score was 39/1. Next, Anoop was brought into the attack together with Amit. Both continued to bowling rhythm and did not give any loose deliveries. Energy was still high in the field and the fielders were backing up the bowlers. The patience paid off and soon Bajwa who got a chance earlier hit a lofted shot towards deep mid wicket and Lokesh was there yet again to take yet another good catch. Almere were now 59/2 in 16 overs. It was a great display of disciplined bowling against an attacking batting line up. Anoop and Amit bowled out their full quotas and ended up with 2 wickets each. Scoreboard read 98/6 at the end of 25 overs. Murad started his spell in an amazing manner; Bowling a perfect yorker and taking the middle stump out of the ground. What a sight it was! Murad and Sooraj finished off the lower order in no time, with Murad taking 3 wickets and Sooraj 2. Almere were bowled for 133 in 36 overs.
A very strong performance by the bowlers in wet conditions overall. The ball was wet and difficult to grip. The bowlers were also backed up well by a top notch fielding performance.
The sun came out and the ground conditions improved. Amit and Sushmit went in to open the innings for QV2. The target of 133 was a tricky one, Not too low to go all guns blazing and not high as well. Batsmen were sent in with a message, that see off first 4-5 overs without losing a wicket and then the pressure will start falling on bowling team. The opponents started with 2 left arm pacers. The opening overs were tight with both bowlers bowling a good line and not giving away any extras. Both batsmen were patient and left a lot of deliveries outside the off stump. At the end of 4 overs the score was 8/0. With the initial objective achieved, In the fifth over, Amit felt he had got his eye in and hit a big six over mid on. The bowler was a bit surprised and it worked in Amit’s favor as bowler started to try too many things and ended up giving 13 runs from the over.
The run rate started to increase from this point with Amit hitting a few big shots and Sushmit at the other end rotating the strike. In no time at the end of 10 overs QV2 were 57/0. Both batsmen looked comfortable at the crease now. With no breakthroughs yet, the opponents changed the bowling and brought in spinners. The batsmen did not look too bothered and continued to rotate the strike and at the drinks break the score was 75/0 at the end of 14 overs. By this time opponents had started showing signs of going down. Amit at this point was hitting the ball beautifully and quickly went on to complete yet another 50, continuing his great form this season. Sushmit continued to support him well and both looked in control of the game. The opposition was looking demotivated at this point as the bastmen brought up their 100 run partnership in the 18th over. QV2 chased the total in 23 overs without loosing any wicket.
Strong performance overall by QV2 in all departments, especially by the bowling unit.
Main take away from this game : The team stayed focus during bowling innings/ There were moments where oppositions was going strong with some heavy shots, but the Team kept pulling it back, as soon as possible. This ensured the momentum was not given away for more than an over or two. Eventually, the consistent pressure ensured, the opposition could only score a low total.
